The skincare industry is booming and is projected to continue in an upwards trend over the next 5 years.
According to the NPD (the National Purchase Diary, a major market research group), the skincare industry grew 18% in 2018. This is the first time for a long period of time that the skincare industry is growing faster than the makeup industry, which was only up 1% in 2018.
In the past 10 years, the global skincare industry has grown 60% hitting a whopping $135 billion as of 2018. Trefis, a financial research and analysis firm is forecasting skincare will grow another 30% over the next 5 years hitting somewhere around the $180 billion dollar mark globally.
People are starting to pay more attention to their skin and for good reason. When it comes to skin care, there are lots of options… and lots of good ones too! There are some really amazing products on the market and skincare technology is at an all time high.
So how do you choose the right products for you? What’s the secret to your BEST skin? How can you get your skincare to really work for you?
It’s a lot more simple than you think.
First, don’t underestimate the power of working with an Esthetician who can help you to choose the right products for your skin. You might think it’s not worth it to pay someone to help you choose products that you are going to pay for, but trust me… you can spend a lot more money trying to find the right products than just the one time fee for a consultation with someone who is extremely knowledgeable about exactly what you are looking for.
Everyone’s skin needs are completely different. There is no one size fits all solution or one magic product that fixes everything. Estheticians can provide much needed treatments to help accelerate the results of your in home skincare routine.
Estheticians are also trained to assess your skin, discuss your history with you, what’s worked or hasn’t worked, and although Estheticians aren’t doctors or nutritionists, they can also take in information about your medical history, diet etc. to help them decipher what skin care products to use or to avoid.
A recent skincare study of facial cleansing inclusive of 1000 American men and women showed shocking results.
– 80% of Americans make at least one or more common mistakes when cleansing their face
– 52% of consumers (66 percent of men and nearly 40 percent of women) use bath wash or hand soap to cleanse their face, while more than one third only use water.
– 65% have no idea what ingredients to look for when purchasing a facial cleanser, and 63 percent don’t understand the purpose of those ingredients.
If you want more information about the survey, you can find it here.
And this is just facial cleansing, so you can see why one might need the help of a professional.
Now while working with an Esthetician is crucial, it isn’t the real secret to success. It’s what gets you to the door, but it doesn’t quite walk you through. Lots of great Estheticians help clients find the right products every day, but there are still clients who find themselves dissatisfied with their results.
So what is the secret?
Having the right products in your hands is super important, but CONSISTENCY is what’s key.
Now, you may have been waiting for me to tell you something you’ve never heard before; some easy magical answer and are now sitting there thinking, “Consistency? Well, that’s nothing special.”
Ahhhh, but it is my friends. You see, only about 52% of people use their skincare products daily, according to statista.com. However, the magic is in using those products every day. When you have been given a customized routine and you follow it diligently every day, you will see results.
Top tip: take before and afters, so you have a visual representation of those results. Sometimes when we watch something as it happens, we don’t notice the end result as much. It’s like when our kids (or puppies or kittens!) grow up. One day they’re small and the next they’re not anymore, but we don’t notice it until someone else points it out. If we have before pictures to compare the results to, we are able to see what has actually changed.
Getting real results has never been simpler. If you haven’t tried using your products consistently before, I highly encourage you to do so. I know this small change will make a big difference!
If you’re up for the challenge, I’d love to see your before and afters and hear about your journey in the comments!
