How to Maintain Sensitive Skin (7 Surefire Ways to Soothe Sensitive Skin and Make it Happy Again Fast!)
Since sensitive skin is a skin condition that many of us may go through at one point or another, it's helpful to have a few helpful tips in your back pocket on how to maintain it well and get it back in tip top shape as quickly as possible.
If you're currently (or ever!) dealing with sensitive skin, follow these tips and you will see a change for the positive!

1. Stay away from foaming cleansers.
If you’ve watched or read any of my stuff (blog posts, videos, instagram and facebook posts!) before, you’re probably pretty familiar with my discontent with foaming cleansers.
I don’t typically recommend foaming cleansers to anyone as most people have some sort of surface dryness.
Steer clear of foaming cleansers, especially when dealing with sensitive skin. Use something hydrating and full of antioxidants to minimize stressors. SkinScript’s Green Tea/Citrus Cleanser or the Hale & Hush Quiet Wash are great choices for when your skin is feeling like it's gone a little haywire.

2. Use a facial device like the My Skin Buddy to help the cleansing process.
The My Skin Buddy is a multi-faceted device that uses thermal heat, ion therapy, LED therapy and ultrasonic vibrations on it's initial setting to emulsify dirt, oil and bacteria and lift it up and out of your pores.
Additionally, it has 5 others settings that use a combination of various types of LED therapy, negative ion therapy and ultrasonic vibration to assist your products in penetrating the skin well, so you can really get the well-meaning benefits of each one!

3. When it comes to exfoliating, do so gently.
Just because your skin might be feeling sensitive, doesn't mean you should stop exfoliating. Exfoliating our skin helps it to renew and replenish itself more quickly, which is exactly what you need when you are dealing with a sensitive skin period.
Use very gentle exfoliants or chemical exfoliants. Harsher products could break down the barrier even more. SkinScript has a great Raspberry Refining Scrub and Glycolic Cleanser. Enough said.

4. Masque Up!
Add a calming face masque to your routine like the Fountain of Youth Calming Vita Masque. It will give your skin the instant refresh that it needs and help to hydrate and nourish simultaneously.

5. Give back to your skin what's naturally occurring.
Use a moisturizer containing ceramides and/or hyaluronic acid. Ceramides account for 50% of the skin's natural barrier. Hyaluronic acid is also found naturally occurring in the skin.
Giving back to the skin with ingredients that are naturally found there will help to ensure you repair and defend the skin's barrier function.
This is extremely important when it comes to sensitive skin. When you are dealing with sensitive skin, you are more inclined to have a slightly compromised barrier. This leaves you exposed and less protected to the outside world than you normally are. A compromised barrier also lessens the effects a really good skincare product can have on your skin.
The Hale & Hush Vital Lipid Lotion and the Hale & Hush Saffron Meristem Cream are packed with barrier repairing and defending ingredients.

6. Eat and exercise well.
Omega-rich foods and getting your blood circulating will be incredibly helpful to your skin’s barrier and we discussed why a healthy skin barrier is important above.
An easy way to start is by thinking less sugar and more green. There is a fantastic 30 day cleanse that helped me kick my healthy eating habits into gear and I know it can help you too!

7. Wear sunscreen.
I know what you're thinking. I always harp on sunscreen... and you're right. I do because it's super important!
You need to do everything you can to protect yourself from the environment because it can do a lot of damage to your skin. The UV rays can cause way more skin issues than we naturally think about. They also know how to make a lot of skin issues worse.
The Hale & Hush Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is everything a sunscreen should be. It is a natural zinc oxide, has both UVA & UVB protection, and has a unique algae/amino acid blend that gives UV protection at the cellular level.
Whenever you find yourself dealing with sensitive skin issues, I encourage you to use these top tips. Do this consistently and you should see a change in your skin in no time.
